Joshua Rosenbaum, a horn player hailing from El Paso, Texas, and currently based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, has garnered notable accolades including a Gold Prize in the professional division at the Canadian International Music Competition, first place in the Summer 2021 King’s Peak International Music Competition, and second place in the MAPIMC solo competition. He is actively engaged as both a teacher and performer.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Rosenbaum has performed with a wide range of ensembles, thereby enhancing his proficiency in various musical styles such as jazz, rock, contemporary, and classical music. His adaptability is evident in his performances playing bass guitar in a rock band, viola in a string quartet, guitar in a jazz band, and horn in all these genres. He had the privilege of sharing the stage with Javier Colon, the champion of the first season of the popular singing competition, The Voice.
Recently, Rosenbaum has been active in performances within the DFW area and in Israel, primarily collaborating with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and serving as the second horn for the Israel Chamber Orchestra. He has also worked with distinguished groups including the Israeli Opera Orchestra, Israel Symphony Rishon LeZion, Israel Sinfonietta Be’er Sheva, and the Galilee Chamber Orchestra, performing throughout Israel and the larger New England region of the United States. In the summer of 2019, he was a performer with the Grammy-nominated National Orchestral Institute, working alongside acclaimed conductors such as John Morris Russell, Ward Stare, Michael Stern, and David Alan Miller, during which he recorded an album for the Naxos Record Label.
Rosenbaum's musical endeavors have taken him to various cities throughout the United States and the Middle East, with performances in prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Meyerson Symphony Center, Winspear Opera House, Universal Studios, Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, and on the historic USS Midway battleship.
Mr. Joshua Rosenbaum has successfully led students to achievements in numerous esteemed ensembles throughout Texas and New Mexico, which include the TMEA 6A All-State Concert Band and Symphonic Band, along with the Southwest Honor Band in Las Cruces, NM. Furthermore, many of his former students have gained admission to or pursued studies at some of the most prestigious music institutions in the United States.
Joshua Rosenbaum previously studied under Michael Slatkin (Assistant Principal Horn, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra), David Heyde (Associate Principal Horn, Dallas Symphony Orchestra), Haley Hoops (Second Horn, Dallas Symphony Orchestra), and Gregory Hustis (retired Principal Horn, Dallas Symphony Orchestra). He trained with three of these instructors at the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Recently, Rosenbaum completed his Master of Music in Performance, learning from John Michael Flavetta (Assistant Principal Horn, Hartford Symphony Orchestra) at the Hartt School of Music. Additionally, he had a brief opportunity to study with Daniel Katzen (retired Second Horn of the Boston Symphony Orchestra) and is currently studying with William VerMeulen.
In addition to his formal education and private lessons with his current and former horn instructors, Mr. Rosenbaum participated in the 47th and 48th International Horn Symposiums held in Los Angeles and Ithaca. He has had the privilege of performing for and attending lectures and masterclasses led by some of the world's foremost horn players, including Dale Clevenger, Gail Williams, William VerMeulen, Stefan Dohr, Philip Myers, Jeff Nelson, Eric Ruske, and Gregory Miller.
Currently, Joshua Rosenbaum is working toward a Doctoral of Arts in Music degree, focusing on Music Education and Conducting at The Winters School of Music at William Carey University.
